Vicente Santos Sainz
Valladolid, 1899 - 1993
A disciple of painter José Moreno Carbonero, he commenced his studies in 1912 at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid and six years later he continued at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving.
After a period with a scholarship in Granada in 1923 and in El Paular in the following year, he held a number of exhibitions.
He was awarded the Development Ministry's National Engraving Prize in 1924, and a year later another of his engravings earned him an award from the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. His work "Virgen de las Pucherillas" is exhibited at the Madrid Fine Arts Circle, which also awarded him first prize at the competition on regional characters and customs for his work La ronda en el valle del Tiétar.
In this vein of local costumbrismo was his contribution to the UEE Collection in 1942, when the calendar reproduced him hunting still life scene "Liebre y perdiz" (Hare and Partridge), which was very much in line with the tastes of the time.
