Carlos Laharrague
1936
Early on in his career he preferred the pastel technique, but he later worked with oil, mainly in still lifes, landscapes and portraits, which emanate an eternal feeling of tranquillity and inner peace that touches viewers directly through a strict realist style.
In his still-lifes he interprets the ceramic shapes of rustic clay with subtle transparent colour which makes them into drawing room and dressing table objects. The same harmony of smooth tones gives life to ideal and tranquil landscapes, with no hint of roughness and unlimited perspectives.
But without doubt the cornerstone of his creativity is the feminine figure, the central and originating source of extraordinary serenity, as evidenced by “Joven” descansando (Girl Resting), part of the UEE collection since 1980.
